"WHEREAS City Council has approved the expansion of outside patio dining for 2021; and

WHEREAS the COVID pandemic has financially devastated many local restaurants; and

WHEREAS the downtown restaurants don’t have money readily on hand to make patio and patio furniture purchases and could use a modest hand up; and

WHEREAS lively, busy patios enliven our downtown core and enhance the downtown aesthetics;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT City Council directs staff to allocate, for the summer of 2021, the sum of $30,000 towards matching funds for such patio applicants, on a first come, first serve basis, to a maximum of $5,000 per successful applicant such monies to be sourced imaginatively by the Director of Corporate Services."

"WHEREAS the COVID pandemic has devastated many of our families and businesses; and

WHEREAS the only solution to the pandemic is mass vaccination; and

WHEREAS our dedicated public health workers can only do their job if they receive vaccines; and

WHEREAS the residents of Grey-Bruce and Owen Sound have received no regular information whatsoever as to when and in what quantities COVID vaccines might arrive from the province;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT City Council directs staff to prepare and send a letter, to be executed by His Worship and all of Council, addressed to the MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound to:

  1. Thank the MPP for his hard work throughout this difficult time; and
  2. Request that the MPP report weekly in writing to the City of Owen Sound and local media as to the number and kind of vaccines which:
    1. the province has delivered to the region in the previous week; and 
    2. the province is expected to deliver to the region in the coming week."
